Guided Protection

The decision layer. Controls how customers decide what protection they need, by putting the consultative process experienced dealers use in person onto the website, so customers arrive already oriented toward the right safe.

GPS, the Guided Protection System, is how dealers guide protection decisions. It's a methodology that lives in the dealer's consultative process, not in TSG. TSG provides the digital expression of it.

Every experienced dealer runs some version of this process in the showroom, narrowing from hundreds of safes to the handful that fit. The problem is it only exists inside the store. Layer 3 moves it online, so customers arrive with a question rather than a blank slate.

The Problem

What Customers Decide Without Guidance

A customer who researches a safe without guidance doesn't follow the same logic a dealer would use. They compare fire ratings without understanding what the numbers mean for their actual contents. They choose a size based on what looks right in a photo without accounting for where they're going to put it. And they arrive at a decision, sometimes a firm one, before they've talked to anyone who actually knows safes.

This isn't a matter of customers being careless. They're making a real purchase for a real reason, protecting firearms from children, documents from fire, a business from theft. They want to get it right. The problem is they're working through the decision alone, with tools that aren't built for this: spec sheets that assume you already understand UL, fire ratings that don't explain what content temperature they protect against.

Customers who decide without guidance don't arrive with open questions. They arrive with answers. Getting them to the right safe means first getting them to let go of the answers they came in with.

Layer 3 puts the guidance online before those conclusions form. A customer who works through a structured protection assessment before visiting arrives with a clearer sense of what they need, not with the wrong safe already picked out.

How It Works

Three Components

01

The Protection Assessment Framework

The dealer's consultative process has a structure, even if no dealer would describe it that way. You ask certain questions before others. You establish what's being protected before threat priorities. You ask about placement before size. Layer 3 formalizes that sequence into an online framework, not a script, but a structured path through the protection decision that mirrors how a skilled dealer walks someone through it. This framework is what GPS is. It's the dealer's consultative methodology, translated into a structure that can happen online before the customer ever calls.

02

The Protection Level Quiz

The PLQ is how the GPS framework reaches the customer online. It's a structured question sequence about what they're protecting, their primary threat concerns, where the safe will live, and who needs access. At the end, the customer receives a TSG Protection Score, a categorical output that tells them what level of protection their situation calls for, before they look at a single product. The quiz doesn't replace the dealer. It prepares the customer for the conversation, which can then start at product selection rather than protection basics.

03

Protection-Level Product Alignment

A protection score only helps if the product pages match it. A customer whose result points toward high-fire-protection safes should land on pages that surface those safes specifically, not a full catalog sorted by price. Layer 3 connects the quiz output to the product layer so the path from assessment to product is direct. The recommendation comes from the dealer's inventory, not from a generic result that applies to anyone.

What It Produces

Three Outcomes

Customers arrive oriented to the right protection level

They've already worked through what they need. The conversation starts at product selection, not protection education. The dealer spends time helping, not explaining fundamentals.

Price comparison becomes less of the conversation

Customers who understand protection differences compare safes on protection fit, not price alone. A customer who knows why a higher-rated safe is right for them doesn't shop on price the same way.

The dealer's expertise shows up before the store visit

The quiz is built around how the dealer thinks about protection decisions, not generic categories. A customer who completes it has already encountered the dealer's approach before speaking to anyone.

System Connections

Guided Protection Sits Between Search and Trust

Connection to Layer 2: Search Authority

Layer 2 brings customers to the site when they're asking general questions. Layer 3 catches them when they're ready to move from understanding to decision. The Protection Level Quiz is the natural next step for a customer who has read about fire ratings and now wants to know what level their situation actually calls for.

Without Layer 3 in place

Educational content educates but doesn't decide. The customer reads about fire ratings, understands more than they did, and then leaves the site to continue comparing on their own, often on a competitor's site or a retailer with lower prices. The research ends but doesn't convert.

With Layer 3 in place

Educational content routes to the quiz. The quiz routes to a protection score. The score routes to the dealer's products that fit it. The customer who spent twenty minutes reading ends with specific recommendations from that dealer rather than starting over somewhere else.

Connection to Layer 4: Dealer Authority

Layer 3 is where the dealer's expertise first becomes visible to the customer in a structured way. A customer who takes the quiz has already encountered the dealer's logic, the questions they were asked, the way protection categories were framed. That's an authority signal. It's not a credentials page, it's the dealer's methodology in action. By the time the customer reads the dealer's credentials on a Layer 4 authority page, they've already experienced how the dealer thinks. The trust built in Layer 3 is what makes Layer 4 land.

What Guided Protection Actually Changes

The dealer's consultative process is the most valuable thing they have. It's what separates a conversation at a safe dealership from buying a safe on Amazon. The process that asks the right questions, explains the tradeoffs honestly, and guides a customer toward the safe that actually fits, that's not something a product listing can replicate.

Layer 3 doesn't replace that process. It extends the reach of it. A customer who goes through the Protection Level Quiz before visiting has already been guided, by the same logic the dealer uses in person, structured for the web. They arrive with context instead of conclusions.

The standard isn't what makes the content good. The dealer is.
